Driving in Worthington

  1. The Village Green crossroads

High Street (US-23) and Dublin-Granville Road (SR-161) meet at the Village Green. Expect pedestrians, parked cars backing out, and drivers looking for parking. Patience here is a skill worth building early.

  2. I-270 across the north

The outerbelt crosses the northern part of the city, with an exit at US-23. It is often the first stretch of freeway Worthington students drive.

  3. Older streets near the center

Older streets near the center are narrow, with blind driveways and cyclists. Keep your speed down and scan side to side.

  4. School start and finish times

Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne high schools fill nearby roads with buses, parents and new teen drivers at the start and end of the day. Plan early practice drives around those times.

Practice drives with a parent

Start on residential streets away from High Street, where traffic is light. Once your teen handles stop signs and turns smoothly, drive around the Village Green at a quiet hour, then again on a busy Saturday. For freeway practice, join I-270 at US-23 and leave at the next exit, then build up to longer stretches. Night drives through the older streets near the center are good practice in scanning for people on foot.
