Driving in Hilliard

  1. I-270 on the east side

The outerbelt runs along Hilliard's east edge, with interchanges at Roberts Road and at Cemetery and Fishinger Road. Short ramps and heavy trucks make these good places to practice a calm, confident merge.

  2. The railroad through Old Hilliard

Tracks cross Main Street in Old Hilliard. Slow down, look both ways and listen, and only start across when there is room for your car on the far side.

  3. Cemetery Road

The city's main east–west road carries shopping traffic, turn lanes and busy signals, and it is where the exam station sits. Driving it before test day takes away one surprise.

Practice drives with a parent

Old Hilliard is a good first stop: low speeds, a railroad crossing and street parking within a few blocks. Then move to Cemetery Road at quiet times and practice turning into busy parking lots. When your teen is steady, drive the short stretch of I-270 between Roberts Road and Cemetery Road. A week before the test, drive past the exam station on Cemetery Road so the area feels familiar.
