Driving in Gahanna

  1. Hamilton Road

Hamilton Road is Gahanna's main north–south road, with lots of signals, turn lanes and shop entrances. Watching for cars pulling out is the key skill. Signal early when you leave it: the driver behind is often closer than you think.

  2. Airport traffic

The airport borders the city to the south-west. Roads near it carry drivers who are rushing or don't know the area, so leave extra space and expect late lane changes.

  3. Olde Gahanna

Along Granville Street by Big Walnut Creek, the old district has crosswalks, parking and a slower pace. A good place to practice parallel parking.

  4. I-270 through town

The outerbelt runs through Gahanna, so freeway practice starts minutes from most homes.

Practice drives with a parent

Start in your neighborhood, then try Olde Gahanna on a quiet morning for crosswalks and parallel parking. Hamilton Road comes next: practice watching for cars leaving shopping centers, and keep a steady speed between lights. Roads near the airport are good for practicing extra space around drivers who change lanes late. I-270 runs through the city, so a first freeway drive can be short: on at one exit, off at the next.
