Driving in Westerville

  1. State Street through Uptown

State Street (SR-3) runs through Uptown Westerville and past Otterbein University. Crosswalks, students crossing, and on-street parking make it a classic low-speed lesson.

  2. I-270 along the south edge

The outerbelt runs along the south side of the city. Merging here, then exiting a few miles later, is a short, useful freeway lesson.

  3. Roads by Hoover Reservoir

East of the city, roads near Hoover Reservoir are quieter and more rural, with curves and fewer lights. Good for practicing speed control and night driving once you have your permit.

  4. One city, two counties

The Franklin and Delaware county line runs through Westerville. It changes nothing about lessons: the same pickup and the same instructors on either side.

Practice drives with a parent

Quiet streets in your own neighborhood come first. Then drive State Street through Uptown while Otterbein classes are in session, so your teen sees crosswalks in real use. The roads toward Hoover Reservoir are good for speed control and, later, for night driving. Save I-270 until merging on a busy road no longer feels rushed, and start with one exit at a time.
