Driving in Canal Winchester

  1. US-33 and Gender Road

US-33 runs past the village as a freeway, with interchanges at Gender Road and Diley Road. Gender Road is also the main shopping strip, so it is busy at most hours.

  2. Railroad by the old depot

A railroad line runs through the old town by the historic depot on High Street. Look and listen at the crossing, and wait behind the line until there is room past the tracks.

  3. Old town streets

The center has narrow streets, on-street parking and people walking to shops. Slow and steady is the rule.

  4. Two-lane roads beyond the village

Past the edge of the village, two-lane roads with higher speed limits lead toward Lithopolis and Groveport. They are good for practicing steady speed and safe following distance.

Practice drives with a parent

Start in the old town early on a weekend: narrow streets, parking and the railroad crossing by the depot all teach careful driving at low speed. Gender Road comes next, for lane changes and busy turns into shopping centers. US-33 is a good first freeway once merging on a busy road feels calm: join at Gender Road and leave at Diley Road. Drive to your test station once before the day.
