Driving in Pickerington

  1. SR-256

SR-256 is Pickerington's main commercial road and links the city to I-70. Expect shopping traffic, turn lanes and drivers heading for the freeway.

  2. Two counties' worth of roads

Most of the city is in Fairfield County, with a small part in Franklin. Outside town, roads turn rural fast, with higher speed limits and farm traffic.

  3. Getting on I-70

The SR-256 interchange is a short drive from most homes, which makes freeway practice easy to fit into a lesson.

  4. Farm traffic

Outside town, expect tractors and wide farm equipment on two-lane roads, especially in spring and fall. Pass only with a long, clear view of the road ahead.

Practice drives with a parent

Quiet streets in town come first, then short drives on SR-256 to practice turn lanes and busy entrances. The rural roads outside town are good for steady speed, curves and meeting oncoming traffic, and later for night driving with high beams used correctly. Finish with the I-70 ramps at SR-256, one exit at a time. Before test day, drive to the station you booked, in Columbus or Lancaster, so the drive there is not new.
