Driving in Delaware
William Street downtown
US-36 and SR-37 run through downtown as William Street, past Ohio Wesleyan. Traffic lights are close together and pedestrians are everywhere during the school year.
US-23 on the east side
US-23 runs along the east side of the city with fast traffic and signals. Turning onto it, and keeping a safe gap at 50-plus mph, is worth practicing before the test.
Country roads
Leave the city and roads quickly become two-lane and rural, often signed at 55 mph, with farm vehicles and no street lights. Take them slowly at night until you know the curves.
Sandusky Street
Sandusky Street is downtown's main north–south street. With parked cars, shop doors and students crossing, it is a short but demanding drive at any hour.
Practice drives with a parent
Downtown is a good test of patience: practice William Street when students are around, and parallel park near Ohio Wesleyan. Then head out on the two-lane country roads to work on speed control, passing farm equipment safely and meeting oncoming traffic. When your teen is ready, practice turning onto US-23 from a side road, where gaps are short. One drive past the exam station on US 23 North before test day removes an unknown.
