Driving in Lewis Center

  1. Columbus Pike (US-23)

US-23, called Columbus Pike here, is the main road through Lewis Center. Several lanes, turn signals at every light, and drivers heading for the freeway make it a full lesson on its own.

  2. Polaris traffic

South of Lewis Center, Polaris Parkway and its shopping centers bring heavy traffic, lots of lane changes and full parking lots. Weekend afternoons are the hardest time.

  3. I-71 to the east

I-71 runs east of the community. Joining it from Polaris Parkway is a common first interstate drive for students here.

  4. New subdivisions

Newer neighborhoods mean curving streets, children playing and parked construction vehicles. Slow, careful driving here builds the habits you need everywhere.

Practice drives with a parent

Your own subdivision is the first classroom: slow speeds, curves and parked cars. Next come short trips on Columbus Pike to practice lane choice and signalling, then Polaris Parkway on a weekday morning before the shops get busy. When merging feels comfortable, take I-71 for one exit. Before the test, drive north on US-23 to the Delaware station once, so the trip on the day is familiar.
